Yes, this is a broad subject that has been covered a few times throughout this forum with the general direction and idea being consistent with three’s overview documentation on loading 3D models. It does nothing to the model, just prints a bunch of stats that will help to figure out why your browser might be crashing. Browser crashes when loading large files (dxf, glTF, etc.)

For large models not only does that not help (you’re not really reducing the size of the memory used - at best it’d reduce the amount of draw calls, but draw calls aren’t crashing tabs, they just freeze them.), it may actually cause more issues, since merging multiple objects into a single geometry prevents frustum culling.
