SL and OpenSim-like 3D social environment

I don’t mean to spam the forums. But I posted a couple of weeks ago about my project and a few people seemed interested. I’ve made a lot of progress since.

My friends and I have run an OpenSim grid for 2 years, and have been in Secondlife forever. Three.js has given us a wonderful opportunity to strike out on our own, and do our own thing.

This past week, I have managed to add semi-respectable Makehuman avatars and BVH animations… dancing, walking, fidgeting… and it’s a lot more fun to play with. I was kind of shocked to find I could even use the 3D world on my cheap little $35 phone

If anyone would like to come take a peek. We have our test world up at https://hgility.com/viewer2/ Just don’t yell at me. I am learning, and this thing is really horrible and hacky. When I get the code cleaned up, I will be happy to share later.

GREAT JOB! Keep up the great work! Please release this & the server code for this. I would love to study it!

very cool, have been meaning to make something like this for a while. I second Aerions post, would also love to study

I am embarrassed by how sloppy my code is right now. I am really blundering along, learning. But when I get the code running well, and cleaned up, I will be very happy to share.

I had a few nice visitors to my world today and was really happy for the encouragement. I am thinking, it might be a fun chat room to meet with othet ThreeJS developers and enthusiasts. We can have a weekly nerd party or something.

Sloppy or not, I’m sure we can read the code just fine! You don’t have to be embarrassed for a work of art!

@Hyacinth : Any luck releasing the code on github?

Awesome! Dude, I’m starting to develop something like that as well here in Southern Brazil! It is so funny but I end up stumbling upon your posts here in the forum so much that I had to hit you up! Seems like we followed the same thought line and approach haha. May I ask you if you could share some parts of your work? I’m not very experienced with 3D games but so far I ended up building a basic prototype. I am struggling on how to use existing BHV animations. I would like to know what kind of avatars (model format / rig format) work better with BHV animations? I couldnt find any example of animating glb models from bhv animations. Is that the right approach? As for the voice server I am using mediasoup, i see you may be using jitsi, I’d strongly recommend you not to for packed sims. Also, what kind of in-world building tool are you embedding into the viewer? I WOULD LOVE to have it, but so far the tools I found are too complex! Anyway, I swear my app will never compete with yours , but it would help so many poor people here locked down due to the covid :frowning:
