Looking to contribute to a game project (for free) and learn from experienced devs 🙏

Hi everyone,

This might be a bit of a weird post, but I figured I’d give it a shot.

Recently I’ve had quite a bit of free time, so I was wondering if anyone is working on a game project and could use an extra pair of hands. I’m happy to help for free.

I’m not a complete beginner. My day job is web development (mostly B/S applications), and I’m fairly comfortable with JavaScript and Three.js.

I’ve worked with things like:

  • Three.js fundamentals (geometry, materials, shaders, instancing/batching, etc.)
  • Basic Ammo.js physics
  • General web development and frontend engineering

Of course, I don’t know everything, and I’m sure there are many areas where I still have a lot to learn.

The main reason I’m doing this isn’t to make money. I genuinely want to learn from experienced game developers—things like:

  • performance optimization for real-world game scenes
  • rendering tricks and cool visual effects
  • game architecture and production workflow
  • the kind of knowledge you only get by working on an actual project

Just to be transparent:

  • I’m based in China (UTC+8).
  • I’m usually available between 7:00 PM and 12:00 AM China time on weekdays (and often more on weekends).

I completely understand that it’s hard to trust a random stranger on the Internet, and I know this request may sound a little naive.

Still… if anyone is willing to give me a chance to contribute, even with small tasks, I’d be incredibly grateful. I’ll do my best to help and learn along the way.

Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone has a great day.

Hey, I think your interests line up pretty well with something I’m working on.

I’m also in China, and I’m currently pushing forward a Three.js project around implementing Forward+ rendering. There’s quite a bit related to real-time rendering, lighting, performance optimization, and scene architecture, so it might be a good fit for what you want to learn and practice.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me and we can talk more. No pressure either way.

by the way if u r chinese just add wechat : koboling
