The origin of this sketch was the simple thougth: “Fill a model with growing/elongating bars. What will this look like?”
For that, I needed fast raycasting. And, as usual, three-mesh-bvh helped me pretty well.

Nice. Especially the metallic appearance and the smooth growing of the bars.
Maybe with sufficiently many bars, the overall shape could be guessed without latex.
(I had fun imagining the various interpretations of your simple though)

10k thin bars - recognizable profile 
I tried it before, I mean huge amount of thin bars, and came up with the thought, that lesser amount of thicker bars works better for the purpose to show how they grow.
