Presenter3D, a guided interactive 3D product experience, looking for UX feedback

Hi everyone,

We’re a small Belgium-based studio focused on building interactive 3D product experiences for the web. Presenter3D is the platform and engine behind those experiences, and depending on the project we work with 3D and software specialists across Europe.

I’ve been developing the core platform for quite a while, and we already have several finished experiences sitting around waiting for their turn. Most of my attention until now has gone into developing the system further, adding more interaction features, building the Commerce engine, and, probably less exciting but just as important, making sure everything behaves reliably across devices and real-world conditions.

Now I’d like to start putting some of these experiences in front of actual users and get feedback on how the interaction feels.

What I’m most interested in is the interaction itself. Ideally, try exploring it without thinking too much about what you are “supposed” to do.

I’d especially like to know:

  • Are the icons and hotspots intuitive?

  • Is it clear when something can be clicked, held, or adjusted?

  • Does moving between guided sequences and free exploration feel natural?

  • Where did you hesitate or get confused?

  • Is there anything you would simplify or change?

A bit about the technical direction:

One of the main priorities with Presenter3D is predictable performance and visual consistency across devices.

We try to avoid relying heavily on real-time lights and shadows. Most lighting is pre-calculated and stored using RGBM / DualRGBM maps instead.

DualRGBM lets us store two complete lighting states and interpolate between them in real time, so scenes can have fairly rich lighting changes without adding real-time shadow rendering or much additional GPU cost.

The viewer also has a scenario system where camera movement, object animation, opacity, screen overlays, sound, and interactive elements can run independently or together.

Visitors can follow a directed sequence, interrupt it at any point to explore freely, and then return to the scenario. During animated camera movement, users can also temporarily take control of the camera within predefined limits; once released, it smoothly returns to its animated path and continues.

There are also continuous controls we call LiveControls. Instead of selecting between fixed states, users can hold a control and continuously change a property such as height, angle, intensity, opacity, or another product value.

A single LiveControl can affect several things at once. For example, changing a physical property of the product can simultaneously drive an animation, update a displayed value, modify another part of the model, or update commerce data.

This particular experience also connects directly to the Presenter3D Commerce engine.

That means the 3D configurator is not isolated from the commercial side of the product. A configuration can carry its own variant information, regional price, stock availability, dispatch information, and other product data, and continue into checkout and the order flow.

The idea is to keep the 3D product viewer, product configuration, and commerce experience connected rather than treating 3D as a separate visual widget beside the actual store.

A few other parts of Presenter3D sit around the viewer itself.

The native viewer elements are multilingual, and each experience can also include additional language packs for custom UI, labels, subtitles, sounds, and voiceovers.

Every published Presenter3D experience is hosted on Presenter3D infrastructure. Hosting is part of the platform architecture rather than a separate deployment option, and free branded hosting is included.

For projects that need ongoing management, experiences can also be connected to the Presenter3D dashboard. Content, language resources, product information, variants, and other supported data can then be updated after publication without rebuilding the experience. Dashboard-based management and other advanced services are available through optional subscriptions.

But for this post, I’m mostly interested in the experience itself.

We’re still actively shaping the interaction language, so criticism is very welcome, especially around anything that feels obvious from the builder’s side but isn’t obvious to someone seeing the experience for the first time.
