Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I was active in the forum. Here I’d like to present my current project. So far, I’ve only been able to test it on Ubuntu and Windows. Since it’s somewhat computationally intensive, a dedicated graphics card is recommended.

I used the best map data that NASA has, from the Moon’s south pole to the 80th parallel south (20m resolution). Since I haven’t activated mipmaps yet, there’s a lot of noise towards the horizon. I’ll fix that. A realistic surface when you’re up close, as well as significantly more precise shadows, are all possible, but it’s a lot of work. That will take time. But the shadows, however, are realistic. This is what it looks like at the Moon’s south pole, where water ice has been proven to exist in craters that never receive sunlight.
