I made a flight simulator.. except you're just a passenger lol

I love nothing more than staring out the window on a 14 hour flight around the planet… I wanted to recreate that experience in the browser…let me share my passion with you!

Take a long-haul flight while you’re working (kindof a white noise generator effect) or just geek out about the map passing by beneath you. Be sure to buckle your seatbelt and stow your tray table during turbulence.

Some interesting technical details (not all 3.js I guess):

  • entire flight is procedural & flight “continues”, even if you leave it
  • weather is also seeded & procedural
  • Clouds w customer shader to prevent popping/flickering
  • Color correction across satellite tiles with a worker t prevent noticeable change in satellite tile
  • Altitude dependent atmospheric haze

I don’t get a window seat? Looks interesting, but it asks for a lot of info that I didn’t want to share. Perhaps a demo version that doesn’t ask for info and doesn’t give rewards so we can see what it looks like?

Hi Phil, thanks for the comment! Can you help me understand what info it was asking for? The browser only asks for location to choose a starting point, and you can opt out of that as well. Also, which rewards are you referring to? Finally, yes you can get up and move around the plane. You can sit anywhere you want.

The first time, it wanted to track my location - which I declined.
Both times, it offered to allow me to save my flight progress using Google, but then asked me to sign into Neon - which I declined. So the flight progress offer is stuck there.

You actually don’t have to do any of that to try it out. sign up is optional, and you can just type the location if you don’t want to use the browser location.

When I signed back in, the save panel was there and the flight was continuing. Is there a way to make the save panel disappear?

I saw that you also have the option to ride in a Cessna 172. That was interesting because I’ve spent a lot of time in the front seat of a Cessna, none in the back. So I have switched to that. Pretty neat!

currently, no, it’ll stay in the corner, though I could definitely consider making an option to hide that, thanks for the suggestion. Glad you were able to get set up and in the air. I appreciate you sharing your experience with the app :slight_smile:
