Does a larger-than-screen plane cost more in performance than a screen-sized plane?

Let’s say I have a ground (a plane rotated along horizontal axis) and a camera above this plane.
If the camera is looking at the ground so that it only “sees” a 10x10 surface of the plane. Does it make a difference if this plane is a 100x100 plane or a 1000x1000 plane? Does it have any impact on performance?

The number of vertices matters, but the scale doesn’t particularly. A very large plane is fine if it only has 4 vertices, for example.
