Switching PDMNDRS depth of field on and off

What is the recommended way to efficiently switch pmndrs depth of field effect on and off?

If set the scale to 0, so it looks like there is no effect, I assume something is still going on in the background which could effect performance?

If i generally will have it off, is it best to only create the effect pass when it is switched on, then dispose of it when it is switched off?

i think effects have a skip blend mode, but i don’t know if that saves performance. i think you best ask vanruesc directly either on github or pmndrs discord in the postpro channel. you could also just unmount it, though that will cause a re-compile.
