Hi everyone!
I wanted to share a project that has been years in the making, a prototype of a spatial web app that works both in WebVR and in a conventional browser window. It’s an augmented book reading experience, a mixture of XRay on steroids and Exploratorium. While it is visually by far not as spectacular as most of the stuff you guys present here, it is special insofar as it is provides multiple integrated 2D/3D user interfaces supporting a broad range of interaction modes, like a common web app, but inside VR.
In order to make it (relatively) easy to build such UIs, I’ve been working on a framework that has similarities with React (2D) and React three fiber and abstracts away all the user interaction stuff (raycasting, hover states, click detection etc.) for both modes (2D and WebVR). I’m thinking of making this frame open source in the near future, if there are people interested in using and/or contributing to it (it still needs a LOT of cleanup). Here is the link to my spatial web app: https://www.veerindex.com.
Thank you,
Horst
