Hi all! I live on Tjuvholmen, a small waterfront neighbourhood in Oslo, Norway, and over the last few weeks I’ve built an interactive 3D model of it that runs in the browser:
Tjuvholmen in 3D – explore the Oslo district
What you can do
- Fly around the whole area, or jump straight to places with one click: the art museum, the sculpture park, the sea bath, the canals …
- Switch between day, evening and night – at night the windows light up
- Press
Demo for a guided tour - “Storm surge” raises the sea to the 10-year flood level (1.40 m), on top of real terrain heights
- Info cards for buildings and artworks, in six languages
- Works on phones too, with touch controls and a bottom sheet for the menu
How it’s made
- Modelled in Blender and exported as a single GLB (about 13.5 MB, 9 MB gzipped). Lots of reused meshes and small textures to keep it light
- three.js r170 with plain ES modules and an import map, no framework or bundler
- Sky, Reflector for the water, UnrealBloomPass for the night lights, CSS2DRenderer for the labels
- The artworks are not copied from photos; they are original interpretations in a similar style
- Built together with Claude (Anthropic) as a coding partner
Feedback is very welcome, especially on performance on older phones and anything that looks off!
