Filmstrip Slider: a cinematic 3D WebGL media slider built with Three.js

I think this is my last product this year, I will start soon a series of courses from zero to hero for those who want to learn how to be a creative developer and make their own apps..

I’ve been working on a project called Filmstrip Slider, a 3D WebGL media slider built with Three.js and designed for cinematic presentations, product showcases, and media-rich websites.

The idea was to create a film-strip style carousel with smooth physics-based motion, dynamic lighting, responsive behavior, and an integrated lightbox workflow for modern web projects. The slider supports images, MP4, MP3, HLS streams, YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive media, iframes, links, subtitles, password-protected media, Chromecast, and ad-enabled playback. It also includes post-processing controls such as RGB edge, wave distortion, glitch, ripple, noise, grid effects, after-image, and more.

A big focus was flexibility. The slider can be configured for JavaScript projects, WordPress, and WooCommerce, with support for responsive layouts, lazy initialization, item snapping, infinite loop, customizable curvature, liquid distortion, color theming, and direct API control and more…

It’s a polished showcase, but it feels like another case where a lot of technical effort goes into building a very niche visual component rather than something with long-term impact. The effects and configurability are impressive, but once the novelty wears off, it’s hard to see where something like this fits beyond a short-lived visual feature on a website.

These kinds of sliders tend to be used briefly and then replaced when the next visual trend comes along. There’s plenty of engineering here, but not much that pushes Three.js forward in terms of reusable systems, gameplay, or long-term frameworks. It’s technically solid, but it risks ending up as a short-term visual experiment rather than something that has lasting influence.

Thank you for the feedbak… I wanted to do something like this since day one I started with threejs but did not have the skill, now I am getting better and AI helps as well so I will create some crazy things in the future for sure!

I have a carousel that has generated nearly 2,000 license sales at 69$ and is not even close to what I created now, so not everyone thinks the same way you do… and that’s a good thing. What you might see as having no value could be gold to someone else.
