Hi everyone! I’ve been building a small planet called Coccolith that you can explore right in your browser.
You land at the north pole and walk around the planet as “sab-chan”, a little character. Works on desktop (keyboard) and mobile (on-screen joysticks / gyro).
Some things I like about it:
- Life on the planet follows your device’s real clock. Pixel-art creatures slowly gather at a five-story pagoda around midnight, and another group gathers at a giant cake stand at 3 p.m. for snack time, then they scatter again.
- A gondola runs on a fixed 10-minute timetable, so everyone sees it in the same place at the same time. You can also ride on top of it.
- There are a few buildings you can walk into.
A quick honest note about how it was made: I designed all of the objects and drew all of the pixel art myself, but I’m not really a programmer – almost all of the code was written by Claude
Code (an AI coding tool). So I may not be able to answer very technical questions. Sorry in advance!
For the curious, here’s what it uses (as far as I understand):
- three.js + three-mesh-bvh for walking on the terrain and colliding with objects
- Terrain generated with simplex noise
- A pre-baked environment map for the metallic reflections
Also, if you’re using AI coding tools to make playful, creative things like this too, I’d love to be friends! Always happy to swap ideas and tips!
