Masking works!:
This is the northern tip of Denmark, where you can see that 2 hexagons are using masking.

Also, I have to be honest, I used Cursor to make the shader code. Feels a little like cheating.
Finished Denmark:
This area has some of the more extreme coastlines in terms of complexity. Most of the world mass has more smooth coast lines. Because the hexagons are slightly skewed, the landmass looks a little squeezed. I am wondering if the vertex shader could be used to give a more flat-on view when you are zoomed ind. Will make the masking look cleaner, I think
I’m genuinely confused about the purpose of the hexagons. I thought they would provide some aesthetic visuals by splitting the surface into plates. But now, this masking wipes out completely the borders, and I’m curious how the hexagons will manifest themselves.
The hexagon is still the object of interaction and “administration”. I hope to get some screenshots up soon of that
