Project Showcase: FlipLamp – An Interactive 3D Steampunk Mutoscope Customizer

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on: FlipLamp. It’s an interactive 3D configurator for a mechanical “steampunk” lamp inspired by vintage mutoscopes.

Modeling & Assets: The main lamp model was created in Blender and exported as a GLB. I focused on maintaining a balance between mechanical detail and performance.

Scene & Lighting: the entire environment, lighting setup, and atmospheric “glow” were built directly within Three.js with a 3 light (key, fill and back) serio

Camera Animation: I implemented custom camera transitions and animations to guide the user through different parts of the mechanism, providing a cinematic feel to the customizer.

Live Demo: https://fliplamp-viewer.netlify.app

Feedback is more than welcome.

Super pretty

Hi @Arekucr
Great work, congratulations!

That’s a cool idea and very appealing presentation!

I like the fake threading and haven’t quite figured out how you’ve done it. Seems like you used cylindrical texture coordinates with a tilted axis?

Also, your demo is one of the rare applications which make my MacBook Pro M4 Max break a sweat (fans going off vehemently) and battery draining as you look on …

Idea for enhancement: currently the pressure gauge lacks any depth. If the dial were a bit recessed with a hand hovering above, you would have some parallactical depth cue as you rotate the view

Good Idea @vielzutun.ch yes I need to improve the gauge details

you can try again? the final url would be http://thefliplamp.com/
